Adventure of the Week: Ronde van East Renfrewshiren

‘Adventure of the Week’ is a series of blog entries from Veloworld capturing some of our favourite cycle routes.

This week Neil takes us on a East Renfrewshire Guided Ride, inspired by sitting at home watching the Flanders Classics Spring races.

If you have a favourite route you’d like to share - we’d love to hear from you! Fill out the form at the end of the post for a chance to be featured in the next Adventure of the Week.

Ronde van East Renfrewshiren

Inspired by sitting at home watching the Flanders Classics Spring races and limited to organising Guided Rides only within our local authority area, East Renfrewshire Guided Rides set up their own 25 mile Ronde van East Renfrewshiren (with apologies to the Ronde van Vlaanderen)!

The rides in Belgium at this time of year are contained in a small areas and have a lot of short, sharp hills. So we tried to do the same around East Renfrewshire! Leaving from Newton Mearns, we went over Bonnyton, down into Eaglesham, over to Waterfoot, Loganswell, Windy Yett, towards Neilston and back to Newton Mearns. En route we passed the Black Loch, Corsehouse Reservoir and White Loch.

Participants’ feedback

"What a superb ride. Challenging and enjoyable route. Great bunch of people to ride along with. Our ride leader kept us all together and also managed to book great weather. Terrific!"

"One of my favourite rides this year ! A lot of challenging hills, but some nice downhills as well. Neil even made the sun come out to make it even better. I’m definitely looking forward to doing this ride again, hopefully the sun will shine for us again."

"First time out with Lets Ride and the group worked as a team to stay together and Neil did an excellent job, route that Neil picked was very scenic….and hilly in parts. Thanks."

If you want to cycle more, then British and Scottish Cycling’s Guided Rides are for you. All you have to do is bring your bike and pedal. Local friendly Ride Leaders do the rest. It's easy. And it's free.

The Guided Ride programme welcomes all kinds of cyclists to deliver led bike rides for groups of beginner and intermediate level adults on roads and cycle paths.
